For those who are mathematically challenged, that makes me almost 50. But not in the picture with my gorgeous wife, Lynne. This is one of the rare pictures of me, so I had to use this. Make me a little balder, a little heavier, and, hey, that would be me! I've been writing since 1962 0r '3 when I and two friends coauthored a little illustrated story called "The Fire Monsters of Bouvet", which we sold to Dell Comics for $15.00 ($5.00 apiece). I, alone, carried on the torch of writing, while my two partners went into music. Haven't been so lucky, since, but I've been close. Had two agents, one went out of business, the other disappointed me (actually, made me suspicious when it came time to renegotiate the contract) so I dropped him, wisely I think. Anyway, I think my time is near (either my funeral or publication, can't be sure which!) with my latest completed novel. I have four completed novels, two ready to publish as is, one needs rewriting, one needs to be changed to a sequel for one of the first two. I also have four more novels currently in progress, which I like to skip around with, just to keep it lively. And, yes, I have some earlier manuscripts, including my first completed in 1970, which I keep sealed in a strike-hardened concrete bunker and revisit only for laughs! But nobody who is still alive has ever read them, including my wife. When I say, "Oh, you wouldn't want to read those!", she listens to me. Thank God. I find writing short stories extremely difficult, and, since I wish I could, admire those who can. I can't stop with a 'whodunit?', I have to go on with a 'Where in the World is....?" Almost every short story I ever started got to a point where I said, "Hey, I like this! If I flesh it out a little, I'd have a heck of a novel here!" And so I would, and it would either flop and I'd never finish it, or it became a novel, for trash or sale. What I really admire, I guess, is a writer who can cut to the chase and make a point. I can do it in a letter, or e-mail, but not in a story. Or a bio, apparently. Anyway, love AFO. These people have real personalities, real patience, and intelligent things to say. And for the most part, nice ways of saying them! I may not add much, but I'm always lurking...!
