( The unfortunate by-product of a chance
encounter between a barmaid and a welder in 1972, I developed a taste for writing whilst
at school. Despite several attempts by my teachers to dissuade me from writing, I
continued to dabble for several years while studying Maths, Art, Classical Studies and
Theatre Studies at college. A brief stint working for Games Workshop did nothing to halt
my literary progress and in 1994 I had my first short story (And the Wind Whispered Why?)
published in a local magazine entitled Beyond the Brink. A runner-up prize in
a BBC Local Radio fiction competition only served to swell an already over-developed ego
and this was followed by another two stories in Beyond the Brink. Since then I
have found gainful employment with a local newspaper (in the advertising department) and
concentrated on the manuscript of my first full-length novel (which I hope to have
finished this year). I would describe myself as a part-time student of life, part-time
writer and full-time layabout. My wife thinks Im insane.
