Bart Hopson

Hi!

I'm more a reader than a writer.  I know what I like and what I don't but it's always a struggle trying to find reasons for each.  If nothing else, AFO has taught me how to express both the what and why.

This has helped my writing to no end.

I started writing very young but so what?

Most of what I turned out didn't even deserve to be posted on the fridge.

I kept it to myself and that was enough for me, I had other avenues to pursue.

I was born and raised in Portland, Oregon.  I can't think of a better city to be born and raised in.  GO BLAZERS! but I had to get out of there.

I joined the Navy in '88 at the tender age of 18 and was quickly sent overseas.  I found myself on an aircraft carrier and travelling.  Couldn't get further from Oregon than this, I thought.  Heh!  Here we go.

Asia, every bit of it.  The good, the bad, the ugly.

I couldn't get enough of any of it.  Every bit of my innocence and more than that of my paychecks and I was in hog heaven.

Married a beautiful Japanese woman and quickly had two beautifully intelligent children by the time I was 24.

Before I was 30 it all fell apart.  Soon after I found myself in a motorcycle accident that left me with a year and a few months worth of time to think in the hospital with my legs stuck in the air.  Lucky I had a laptop computer.  (re-named it the chest-top)

Thought about a lot of things, but mostly I wrote and filled up journals, till I found AFO, then I filled up journals with hopes of typing something in for posting.

I found people that liked to tell stories and loved to share their thoughts on other poeple's stories.  Hog heaven, to steal a phrase.

I quickly learned to take my stories a bit more seriously and myself a little less so.

Been here ever since.

Hope to be here as long as AFO'll have me.

See you in the threads.
